WhatsApp led campaign from Saatchi & Saatchi encourages gen z to make memories this summer

Europe’s most valuable telco brand, Deutsche Telekom, has launched a new campaign with creative partners Saatchi & Saatchi. Entering WhatsApp group chats across Europe, the AI Chat Bot, No Excuses, continues the brand’s commitment to help gen z's to make memories and step away from the pressures and stresses for a summer to remember.

This year Deutsche Telekom went straight to the source - WhatsApp - the place where all plans for the summer get made, and often get broken. The work, landing in a place brands aren’t usually invited to, is designed to tackle the thing that gets in the way of plans more than anything else - excuses!

Building on the brands ’Summer of Joy’ platform, The Summer to Remember campaign will use innovative AI technology to engage young people in the online spaces they plan their summer – the group chats on their phones. The No Excuses bot is a WhatsApp assistant that can be added to any WhatsApp group. It can be deployed to roast friends for making excuses not to go out, and also offers group members the chance to win tickets to some of Europe’s most anticipated festivals including Melt (GER), Rolling Loud Europe (AT) and Lollapalooza (GER), and make it a summer to remember thanks to 10,000 free music experiences across Europe, allowing them to create memories they will treasure tomorrow, today.

That means we’re putting on events, giving away free festival tickets and savagely roasting them in multiple languages front of their friends. An additional immersive AI tool, which will allow users to relive collective summer memories, will launch at a later stage of the campaign. The campaign will also run across social and online with a range of international and local content creators promoting both AI tools across Deutsche Telekom’’s European markets*.
