This Mother’s Day, MullenLowe x Momternship are delivering more than flowers to mothers, they’re planting opportunities.
According to recent workplace studies from Harvard and Indeed, just being a mum makes you 6x less likely to be hired. And stay-at-home mums looking to return to the workforce face an even greater challenge, with 73% reporting that they have encountered bias in the hiring process due to their parental status. So, in 2022, MullenLowe launched Momternship, a first-of-its-kind internship program designed to help mothers return to the workforce. MullenLowe set out to centre the experiences of working mothers, raise awareness of the cultural biases impacting them in the workforce, and recognise and celebrate the strengths they bring to any organisation.
After two successful years and over 800 Momternship applicants, MullenLowe is calling for support from the industry and created a trojan horse to get it.
74% of mums are expected to receive flowers on Mother’s Day. And MullenLowe found that many of those in charge of hiring in the industry are mums themselves. So, this Mother’s Day, “Trojan Bouquet'' will deliver flowers wrapped in past Momtern resumes to recruiters, who are also mums, along with a card that reminds them:
“Mums want more than flowers, they want opportunities.”
