We Are Pi launches 'New References', a podcast that goes down the cultural rabbit hole with leaders including DJ Gilles Peterson to WeTransfer’s Damien Bradfield

New References, a new podcast from Amsterdam-based agency We Are Pi, explores inspirational creative legends’ cultural references and experiences.

From world-renowned DJ Gilles Peterson and WeTransfer founder Damian Bradfield, to fashion publicist Mesh Chhibber, each episode goes down the rabbit hole, unearthing their creative gems and journeys - past, present and future - one interview at a time.

Hosted by We Are Pi founder, Alex Bennett-Grant, New References reveals what makes these creative leaders tick and how they stay ahead of the game. Deep-diving into the hot new references and lifelong passions that fuel them, Alex’s in-depth interviews explore their references more deeply, from Amy Winehouse to Island Records, and from Blue Velvet to Baby Reindeer.

New References aims to help creative people find new inspiration, get out of the social feed bubble, and stay creatively fresh, offering advice for anyone stuck in a creative rut.

In episode one, Alex sits down with Damian Bradfield, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of WeTransfer file-sharing company and WePresent editorial website. Damian shares his passion for supporting the arts, explaining how his brand activist journey from Trump to Brexit resulted in winning an Oscar, and what he hates about tech and loves about luxury.

Alex interviews Gilles Peterson, the visionary DJ, BBC radio host, and company founder in episode two. Peterson shares his lifelong love of jazz, funk, electronic, and hip-hop music, and reveals icons, places, moments and scenes that have inspired him.

Episode three features Mesh Chhibber, the one-time understudy of André Leon Talley, revealing his personal journey to becoming a high fashion connector and PR for John Galliano, Stella McCartney and Rick Owens. Alex uncovers Mesh’s love for supporting young designers, his chance discovery of The Face magazine at an '80s boarding school, and the highs and lows of working with John Galliano.

“Our creativity is often defined by creative output, our work,” said We Are Pi’s Alex Bennett Grant. “But what about the highly personal cultural and artistic points of reference that fuel our individual creativity? This podcast is all about giving creative people new references to look up and new inspiration to get out there and create.”
